Playa Del Rey

Playa Del Rey

A laid-back beachside town known for its small-town vibes, beaches, and proximity to LAX and Marina del Rey.

Welcome to Playa Del Ray

It is a coastal neighborhood with rolling hills of compacted sand dunes, which rise up to 125 feet above sea level, often referred to as The Del Rey Hills or "The Bluffs".

Though the name Playa del Rey is Spanish for “Beach of the King” or “King’s beach”, this laid-back beachside town is anything but highfalutin’. Known for its small town vibes and proud residents, big shopping malls and chain restaurants are few and far between, with the community mostly hosting residences, small businesses, and offices. The main beach at Dockweiler State Beach offers a wide sandy beach with lifeguards, fire pits, a paved bike path, and nice facilities. This is a great place for swimming and sunbathing while watching planes take off overhead. Playa Del Rey Beach offers volleyball courts, a long paved bike path, and a grass park across the street that has a kids' playground and basketball courts. Locals call the north end of Playa Del Rey Beach “Toes Beach” for hanging ten (toes) on a surfboard.

Highlights

With the miles of pedestrian pathways for walking and cycling, this community is perfect for nature lovers with the Ballona Wetlands, Del Rey Lagoon park, and beaches. Adjacent to Loyola Marymount University and Otis College of Art and Design, less than 10 minutes to LAX and minutes from Marina del Rey, Westchester and Playa Vista.
